DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 7/30/17 male patient (A), in his 20s, allegedly assaulted male patient (B), who was in his 30s.
The facility conducted an internal investigation and notified the physician and police. When patient (A) entered the day hall, he began swinging his fists and walked by patient (B). Patient (A) then stopped, turned around and hit patient (B), who remained seated. Staff redirected patient (A) away from patient (B) and staff reported patient (A) apologized to patient (B). Patient (A) started to walk away, but then stopped, turned around and approached patient (B) again with swinging fists. This time, patient (B) stood up and started swinging at patient (B). Staff and officers responded to separate the patients. As staff escorted patient (A), he quickly got away from staff and moved towards other patients sitting in the hall. Staff was able to apprehend and secure patient (A) in a manual hold to escort him from the room. Patient (B) reported he had no concerns regarding his safety. Nursing assessed patient (B) and there were no apparent injuries. Patient (A) had swelling to his mouth area and an ice pack was applied for comfort. Assault II precautions started on patient (A).
