DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 05/04/17 male patient (A), in his 30s, and male patient (B), in his 20s, were involved in a physical altercation.
The facility conducted an internal investigation and notified the police and physician. Patient (A) was identified with delusions and aggression. Patient (B) was identified as impulsive and assaultive toward peers and staff. He was delusional and believed he was Adolf Hitler. On 05/04/17, patient (A) made a remark about Hitler to patient (B). Patient (B) took offense to the remark and began swinging at patient (A). Patient (B) landed one blow before staff was able to separate the two patients, resulting in a laceration to patient (A)'s lip. Patient (A)'s laceration was sutured at an emergency department and he was moved to a different wing at the facility upon his return. Both patients were placed on assault precautions. The following morning, patient (A) was discharged to jail as previously scheduled.
