DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 10/22/16 two male patients, in their teens, engaged in a physical altercation.

When two patients were sitting on the front porch, a ball was thrown to patient (B), who missed catching the ball. Patient (A) became angry and threw the ball at patient (B) as hard as he could. Patient (B) proceeded to throw the ball back at patient (A), and at the same time, patient (A) punched patient (B) and threw him to the ground. Staff intervened and placed patient (A) in an approved hold while escorting him out of the area. Nursing assessed patient (B) and he sustained eye swelling with bruising and an abrasion to his elbow. First aid was provided. Patient (B) denied experiencing any pain or blurred vision. Both patients exhibited poor impulse control along with anger issues. Assault II precautions were implemented on patient (A). Staff planned to assist the patients in recognizing ways they could better manage their emotions in these type of situations.
