DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 08/26/16 male patient (A), in his 20s, was poked in the buttocks by male patient (B), who was in his 30s.
The facility conducted an internal investigation and notified the police and physicians. Patient (A) reported that patient (B) poked him in the buttocks while they were walking in the courtyard. Patient (B) admitted he poked patient (A), and stated that he did not have control over his hands and fingers. Patient (B) had a history of sexually inappropriate behaviors. Patient (A) was assessed and there were no signs of injury or redness. Patient (B) was informed that he could not touch any other person and he stated that he understood. Patient (B)'s physician wrote orders for him to be placed on assault II precautions, and he was moved to a different unit. Close monitoring of patient (B) continued ensure the safety of other patients.
The Department reviewed the facility's report and supplemental documentation and found that the facility acted appropriately by reporting the occurrence, notifying the appropriate persons and agencies and conducting an investigation.
The facility failed to report timely and deficient practice was cited. The Department will review this occurrence prior to the next survey.
