DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 06/30/16 a male patient, in his 70s, reported he was missing $3.
The facility conducted an internal investigation and notified police. The patient said $3 was missing from his wallet and he accused another patient of taking the money. He said he had seen the other patient going through his closet. The patient had diagnoses of mental illness. Staff searched the patient's room and the room of the patient he accused of taking the money. The money was not located. The patient had been allocated the money the afternoon of 06/29/16. He kept the money in his wallet in the inside pocket of his jacket. The patient did not have vending machine privileges. The facility was unable to substantiate the allegations. The patient could have lost the money or gave it to another patient to purchase items for him from the vending machine. The patient was reminded of the means available to him to keep his money safe.
The Department reviewed the facility's report and supplemental documentation and found that the facility acted appropriately by reporting the occurrence, notifying the appropriate persons and agencies and conducting an investigation.
The Department will review this occurrence prior to the next survey.
