DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 03/12/15 a male patient, in his 30s, was missing a storage box of clothes.
The facility conducted an internal investigation. The physician, family/guardian, the facility police were notified. During his stay at the facility, the patient transferred a box of clothes to the long-term storage unit on the premises. The property sheets were signed by the patient and witnessed by staff. At his discharge, the box could not be located. There were five shirts and one fleece jacket. A search was conducted and the items were not found. The facility reimbursed the patient for the missing items. New procedures were implemented to now have staff sign a log when items were placed in storage.
The Department reviewed the facility's report and found that the facility acted appropriately by reporting the occurrence, notifying the appropriate persons and agencies, conducting an internal investigation and search, reimbursing his for the missing items and revising the procedures when items were stored.
The Department will review this occurrence prior to any survey or upon receipt of any complaint that may be filed against this facility.
