DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 01/31/15, patient (A), in his 20's, informed staff that patient (B), gave him a white pill (Seroquel) and told him to crush it and snort it. Patient (A) informed staff he was not feeling well.
Patient (B) was also in his 20s.
The facility conducted an investigationand notified police and the physician. Patient (A) gave many stories but eventually admitted patient (B) had given him a pill and made him snort it. He was monitored and exhibited no negative effects. Patient (B) was interviewed and admitted bullying patient (A) and making him snort the pill. Both patients were placed on peer restriction. Both patients agreed to stay away from each other. Patient (A) was moved to a different unit.
The Department reviewed the facility's report and supplemental documentation and found that the facility acted appropriately by reporting the occurrence, notifying the appropriate persons, placing both patients on peer restrictions monitoring patient (A) for changes after snorting the medication and moving patient (A) to another unit.
The Department will review this occurrence prior to any survey or upon receipt of any complaint that may be filed against this facility.
