Type of Occurrence: Misappropriation of Property
DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:
On 12/09/14 a female patient, in her 20s, reported $20.00, 2 packets of Crystal Light and make-up missing.
The facility conducted an internal investigation. The facility notified police. The patient returned to her room and noticed things in her room had been moved but she did not think anything was missing. Later she reported $20.00, 2 packets of Crystal Light and make up were missing. She named another patient as a suspect but had not seen this patient taken anything. The patient she suspected was interviewed and denied taking the items. A search was conducted but the items were not located. The facility was not able to determine what happened. The patient had a history of fabricating information. The patient had the ability to lock her room to keep property safe and was encouraged to do so when she reported items had been moved in her room. She stated she did not want to lock her room because she wanted to feel safe in her environment without locking doors.
The Department reviewed the facility's report and supplemental documentation and found that the facility acted appropriately by reporting the occurrence, notifying the appropriate persons and agencies, conducting a search and investigation and encouraging the patient to lock the door to her room when she is not in the room to keep her property safe.
No deficient practice was cited. The Department will review this occurrence prior to any survey or upon receipt of any complaint that may be filed against this facility.
